The Path He Showed Me
A christian’s journey through illness, faith, and the unexpected way of healing. “He did not miraculously cure me. He miraculously showed me a path—and walked that path with me.”
I am a Christian. I am a believer and follower of Jesus Christ. I always have been, and I always will be.
It was this Jesus Christ who led me, carried me, and stayed with me through every moment of my illness and diagnosis. When I finally surrendered, completely, on my knees. He showed me a path. I want to be very clear about this: He showed me a path to follow.
How ancient wisdom and divine guidance led me to healing
The path was not easy. It was hard, demanding, and filled with tears, prayer, and perseverance. But I know He was with me every step of the way. Many times, He carried me when I could not go on. He did not miraculously cure me. Instead, He miraculously showed me a path and walked it beside me. It took hard work, dedication, sweat, and countless tears on my part. It required faith in what I could not see and trust in the quiet voice that whispered, “Keep going.”
Discovering a Path Rooted in Ancient Wisdom
What surprised me most was that this path, the one He showed me, was rooted in ancient Hindu traditions and practices. That realization made me pause and wonder about the parallels between the biblical teachings I had always known and the yogic philosophy that was now shaping my healing.
The similarities were undeniable. Both paths seemed to speak the same language of love, peace, and surrender—echoing truths I had carried since childhood.
A Foundation in Scripture
The Ten Commandments have always been part of my foundation. As a child, I wore a charm bracelet engraved with them. They were my moral compass and the center of my relationship with Jesus, and they still are.
I am an avid student of the Bible. I’ve read it from cover to cover nine times—thirteen pages a day, every day, for ninety days at a time. I’ve studied scripture deeply, exploring context and origins, and continue to find endless wisdom in every line.
When Yoga Became Part of the Healing
When I began my recovery and yoga entered the picture, I approached it with the same reverence and curiosity that I bring to scripture. I wanted to understand it fully—to discern what was true and what aligned with my faith.
In yoga, there is often chanting. I choose not to chant because I don’t always know the meaning of the words. I am protective of my spirit and mindful of what I welcome into it. Yet as I studied Hinduism and Buddhism—both of which I now see as philosophies rather than religions—I found something profoundly familiar.
Their teachings echoed what God had already written on my heart: love for self, love for others, and living in a way that causes no harm.
The Same Truth, Spoken in Different Tongues
The Ten Commandments teach us to love God, to live with honesty, integrity, and compassion, and to treat others with kindness and respect.
The Eight Limbs of Yoga teach non-harm, truthfulness, contentment, self-discipline, and surrender to the divine.
Both paths lead toward peace. Both invite stillness. Both call us to walk humbly—with love and awareness of God’s presence in every breath.
So I no longer see the practices that supported my healing as separate from my faith. I see them as part of the same path—the path that Jesus showed me. A path that required strength, courage, surrender, and grace.
He did not pull me out of my suffering. He walked with me through it. And in that journey, He revealed how wide, how deep, and how boundless His love truly is.
The path He showed me was not the one I expected.
But it was the one that saved me.
A Closing Reflection
If you are walking through your own season of pain or uncertainty, I pray this brings comfort to your heart. Healing does not always come the way we imagine it will. Sometimes, it comes as a quiet whisper, a gentle nudge, or an unexpected path that asks for trust instead of answers.
May you find peace in knowing that God is not only beside you, but within every breath, every step, and every moment of your journey.
He may not lift you out of the storm, but He will walk with you through it.
Lord, thank You for being the light that never leaves us, even when the path feels dark. Teach us to trust You fully—to see Your hand in unexpected places and to walk forward with courage, grace, and faith. Amen.
Share the Light.
